It's up to us.   We’re the ones we’ve been waiting for.

As Thomas Jefferson once said, "We in America do not have government by the majority.  We have government by the majority who participate."

Unfortunately, too often really important decisions made at the local level are made in a vacuum -- the public is absent from critical meetings, public opinion is unknown, and elected officials are left to guess how their constituents feel about an issue.

We, the people, are the solution. We need to get involved.

CAP is working to encourage and support public participation in the update of the Calaveras County General Plan, and to make public information more accessible to the public.

If you'd like to learn more about how you can get involved, or if you'd just like to be added to our mailing list, please click here.

"The best defense [for a democracy, for the public good] is aggressiveness, the aggressiveness of the involved citizen. We need to reassert that slow, time-consuming, inefficient, boring process that requires our involvement; it is called 'being a citizen.' The public good is not something that you can see. It is not static. It is a process. It is the process by which democratic civilizations build themselves."     ---  John Ralston Saul

"The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don't have any."  --  Alice Walker

“The citizen can bring our political and governmental institutions back to life, make them responsive and accountable, and keep them honest. No one else can.” -- John Gardner
